ABNA24 - Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran Hossein Simaei Saraf has slammed he United States and the Israeli regime for intentionally targeting educational institutions, including universities in their unprovoked and illegitimate war on the Islamic Republic.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, following an attack on the Laser and Plasma Research Institute of Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, Saraf described the enemies targeting the country's higher education and research centers as a clear violation of international law and a crime against humanity.

According to him, more than 30 universities have been directly hit by the US and Israeli regime in their ongoing aggression against Iran, which is unbelievable in the age of human rights and international law, a hostility that has even distanced itself from the most basic human values and democracy.

He said Friday's brutal attack followed aggressions against other pioneer institutions, including the University of Science and Technology in Tehran and Isfahan Industrial University among others.

Emphasizing the importance of scientific infrastructure, the minister stated that the aggressive American and Israeli regimes had violated all norms and rules by attacking non-military facilities for education and research.

Recalling Iran as one of the world's scientific human resources providers, Saraf said the enemies have deprived millions of Iranian students and scholars of education and research.

He also reminded the international community about the assassination of Iranian scientists and scholars by Israel, saying the Zionist regime has been pursuing its assassination campaign for years, including during the 12-day war just months ago.

Saraf concluded by saying that Iran would continue the path of scientific and technological progress, and any violent acts by the enemies would not stop he country's determination to reach its scientific goals.
